Official Synopsis: “Obi-Wan Kenobi” begins 10 years after the dramatic events of “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat — the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.

What We Can Expect:

Obi-Wan Kenobi

As the title character, we will surely witness the consequences of Obi-Wan’s (Ewan McGregor) self-imposed exile on Tatooine. The trailer shows him observing a young Luke Skywalker (Grant Feely) from afar and then gives us a snippet of a conversation with Luke’s uncle; Owen Lars (Joel Edgerton).

Obi-Wan (with an air of authority that Jedi are no longer entitled to) says, “When the time comes, he must be trained.” Dear Uncle Owen gives us the perfect comeback by saying, “Like you trained his father?”

Hmmm, how exactly did that high ground work out for you, Master Kenobi? *insert Darth Vader sad emoji*

Darth Vader

Ever since 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, fans have wondered when we would see our favorite heavy-breathing antihero again. An encounter with his friend-turned-nemesis; Obi-Wan was originally not canon but Disney will hopefully be giving us what we want to see the most…

Of course, I am talking about an epic Jedi battle to rival all Imperial-era battles (or any era for that matter).

Fans were surprised to see Hayden Christensen reprise his role as Darth Vader, especially after all the negative attention he got for his original portrayal in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones & Revenge of the Sith. It seems that in the end, we are more forgiving than the Emperor.

This quote from a recent interview pretty much sums up his thoughts on rejoining the franchise:

‘It’s been so heartwarming’ to feel the love from young Star Wars fans.

Imperial Inquisitors

Fans of the animated series Star Wars: Rebels and Respawn Entertainment’s game Jedi: Fallen Order will surely be excited to see the infamous Inquisitors for the first time in a live-action setting.

The trailer shows us three of these imposing foes; Reva (Moses Ingram), the Grand Inquisitor (Rupert Friend), and Fifth Brother (Sung Kang) arrive on Tatooine in search of…?

We are also treated to ample footage of their HQ; Fortress Inquisitorius on the moon Nur in the Mustafar system. Yes, that is the same system as the planet Mustafar where Fortress Vader is located.

Clearly, Obi-Wan is high on the Inquisitor’s proverbial s**t-list. The trailer shows us a “wanted” alert, imperial probes being sent out, and bounty hunters being dispatched to find him.

Owen & Beru Lars

It would be interesting to see Luke Skywalker’s aunt (Bonnie Piesse) and uncle get some dedicated screen time. After all, they are responsible for raising one of cinema’s most celebrated heroes. (Can we tell any version of Spider-Man‘s origin story without Aunt May or Uncle Ben?)

Perhaps, the miniseries will also show us how the seemingly cordial relationship between Owen and Ben in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith changes to Owen’s more tenuous stance in Star Wars: A New Hope.

Star Wars: Why Uncle Owen Hated Obi-Wan So Much can shed more light on their relationship until the six-episode event gives us more answers.

What We Would Love To See:

Characters From Other Star Wars Animated & Live-Action Series

Mando & Boba are probably moody teenagers during the Obi-Wan Kenobi timeline, so a cameo from either of them is unlikely. Too many beloved characters would surely distract from the show’s main story arc; the unfinished business between Obi-Wan and Anakin Skywalker, now Darth Vader.

The following quote from Director Deborah Chow suggests that the six-episode event might even explore far deeper aspects of their relationship:

For me, across the prequels, through the original trilogy, there’s a love-story dynamic with these two that goes through the whole thing.

Ahsoka Tano (Ashley Eckstein/Rosario Dawson), however, could make a quick cameo without breaking canon. Anakin SkyWalker’s former apprentice has appeared in multiple Star Wars projects, including the animated series; The Clone Wars, live-action hit; The Mandalorian, and Mike Chen’s novel; Star Wars: Brotherhood.

She might still surprise us before starring in her own spin-off; Star Wars: Ahsoka

Characters From Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

An appearance of Cal Kestis and members of his ragtag group of rebels would make a lot of sense for the show but it’s unlikely to happen. The game’s story is set five years after “Order 66” as opposed to Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s full decade, so Cal & Co being featured is technically possible.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series does have great potential to set up a backdrop for the game’s confirmed sequel, rumored to be called Star Wars: Jedi Survivor.
